The Causeway Islands, or Islas Calzada de Amador, are 4 tiny islands in the Pacific Ocean near the entrance to the Panama Canal. They are linked to the mainland via the Amador Causeway, a 6 km one lane road, which was constructed from rock from the Culebra Cut, extracted during the construction of the Panama Canal. Alongside the road is a bicycle and jogging route for bikers and joggers. For more information; click the picture!
The Historic Monumental Complex of Panamá Viejo, also known as Panamá la Vieja, is the remaining part of the original Panama City, the former capital of the country. It is located in the suburbs of the current capital, between the mouths of the Algarrobo and Abajo rivers, off the coast of the Pacific Ocean in the narrowest section of the Isthmus. Together with the historical district of Panamá, it has been a World Heritage Site since 1997. For more information; click the picture!
Biomuseo is a museum focused on the natural history of Panama, whose isthmus was formed very recently in geologic time, with major impact on the ecology of the Western Hemisphere. Located on the Amador Causeway in Panama City, Panama, it was designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry. This is Gehry's first design for Latin America. For more information; click the picture!
